Just a Plain Ole Bird

Just a Plain Ole Bird

This morning I woke up early for quiet time in paradise. Brad found a tiki hut cabana overlooking the city near a jungle for us to stay. He didn’t tell me about it, because for the price he was convinced something was wrong in the description. It’s like half treehouse, half dreams come true.  I love travel.    I’ve never full slept under a thatch roof before.  It turns out they are waterproof—it’s a cool sound when it rains, after you realize you aren’t getting drenched 😂.  They aren’t sound proof, and I do love an early morning, so when...

A couple of Confessions....

A couple of Confessions....

A couple of confessions:  First, prompted by a Beth Moore cry for prayer over our world, I committed to pray every day during the month of July….Except I apparently missed that July had started. I blame Summer brain, and I'm not sad about that. However, I will honor my one-month commitment, and I imagine August will be ok with that.     Second: I wish I were the type of person who nerded out on things like genealogy, but alas….The only time I scoured the bible for names was when I was pregnant. Light Overcomes Darkness

Light Overcomes Darkness

Thank you for joining me as I continue to explore how the Lord helped me create "Light overcomes Darkness" and the crazy cool truth He taught me in my process.    As I prayed and worked through the depths of this painting, I was drawn back to the beginning, like, the original beginning...When God initially split the dark from the light. He shared a truth with me that is still sending shock waves through my mind, and I hope it does the same for you. I hope you hang with me as I unpack this! God created all of the...

That Time I Almost Hated the World's Biggest Canvas...

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. It was the largest canvas commission of my career. So big that you can't purchase pre-stretched canvases that size. I would have to build it. Totally not intimidating at all... I had learned how to do that in a scene painting class once, in theory, at least. Fifteen years ago.... what could possibly go wrong?  Bless my heart. I researched and talked to people. I worried and planned. Once we finally built the giant, painting it would be my sweet spot—or so I thought. Generally, by the time...

Hear Me Out: Our Kids Need More Testing

Hear Me Out: Our Kids Need More Testing

This morning, I danced, prayed, was peppy, and made turbo snacks. I spoke life, and I prayed. I encouraged. I prayed...Then I watched my nine-year-old baby, terror in her eyes, tears flowing against her will, head in to take her first state test. I sank in exhaustion, sadness, and, honestly, fire-raging fury. What if we stopped? As her parents, we have shouted from the rooftops that we are not obsessed or even concerned with how our kids perform on standardized tests. We know they are intelligent. We know they are hard workers. We know they love to learn. That is...
