Light Overcomes Darkness

Thank you for joining me as I continue to explore how the Lord helped me create "Light overcomes Darkness" and the crazy cool truth He taught me in my process.

As I prayed and worked through the depths of this painting, I was drawn back to the beginning, like, the original beginning...When God initially split the dark from the light.
He shared a truth with me that is still sending shock waves through my mind, and I hope it does the same for you.
I hope you hang with me as I unpack this!

God created all of the things in the world by speaking them into being, except man. What does formless and void feel like?? What even was pre-beginning when there was no light? I can't wrap my mind around it. Each new creation had to feel more dramatic than the last, layer after layer, building up to the masterpiece where He focused His creative time….forming humans, who were given the ultimate gift of His likeness. First, He blessed; then He gave them purpose: Be fruitful, multiply, rule the earth, take care of my creation, enjoy it, it was all for you! Hard pause: enjoying creation wasn't even the blessing. It was separate.

After placing Adam in a beautiful garden, He established one boundary: say it with me: "you are not to eat fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." Do you know what I have never considered before pondering this painting? There were actually two things God wanted to protect his humans from. He wanted us to avoid not only the knowledge of EVIL but also the knowledge of GOOD.

The original word for 'good' means 'beautiful, bountiful, ease, pleasure, wealth, sweet, kindly.' So why would He want us to avoid knowledge of that? They all sound like awesome things to know about and enjoy, right??

This question drew me back to what He DID want for them: To know His blessings before we knew our purpose. His perfect design protected us from evil AND from settling for 'good.' He wanted us to know Him intimately and not slip into the life we live now where the good things are mistaken for holy things.

God's version of blessed is so much more than we can even comprehend or imagine in a world where knowledge of good and evil numbs us. In the original blessing, Glory splits the darkness from the light, the good from the evil, the ordinary from the divine: that is where we find the true light. Drifting to either extreme: good or evil will leave us empty or, at best, momentarily satisfied.

What if true blessing and Holiness are in the in-between of both extremes?

"In the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him, all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made.
In Him was life, and that life was the light of all humankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it." John 1:1-5

There is nothing He cannot bring to life when we allow His light to penetrate it. When we feel like something is too big or too small, pride is ruling our minds. How can we ever agree with the enemy of our soul that the God who split darkness from light in the entire universe can't or won't do that in me? He can shine TRUE light and electrify even the good places in our life that feel just fine. There is more! We have to stop accepting fake, cheap alternatives as blessings.

What if He is standing outside of your days and minutes, knocking, waiting to be invited in? What prayers of the saints around you are already answered but not fully seen because you aren't listening for the gentle announcement of His presence?
What about the prayers you are praying, on the cliff of discouragement, convinced they are not being answered? Could it be that they have, and He waits to manifest it on someone when they surrender fully? Press on prayer warrior, but also share with people when they are in your prayers. My client's sweet encouragement was instrumental in my breakthru!
Without her nudge, I would have continued in my own strength. I would have probably eventually painted a perfectly fine painting.
But her encouragement unlocked the Holy Spirit's power and transformed a sweet piece of art into a worship expression of how I see God. That is the true blessing: community with Him
