Lemonade Stand

Lemonade Stand

I am so excited to share the inspiration behind the painting entitled “Lemonade Stand”.  I am so excited to share the story of this spicy, southern lady...   I have some strong, passionate, tender, fierce girls in my life. You can often, in your best southern drawl proclaim “well...she gets it from her mama”.   Recently one of my best girls lost her mother. It was unexpected. It was shocking. It rocked us all. As chaos settled into the new norm, we took a little road trip, and I asked her to just tell me stories about her mom. ...

Eminent Worship

Eminent Worship

Drowning  The imagery of drowning has been so completely prevalent in my life this year, it almost didn't even surprise me when it was one of the descriptions Ian used.  We were talking out the vision he wanted me to live paint during the ten year celebration of Eminent Worship, a ministry he inherited and has faithfully led.  This time last year, when I launched my writing and completely revamped my vision for Artistic Therapy, I paired it with the song In Over My Head: "And You crash over me, I've lost control but I'm free.  I'm going under.  I'm...

How to Help when You’re Drowning Yourself.

How to Help when You’re Drowning Yourself.

I heard it in your voice as you dove into virtually teaching third graders. You were so perky and upbeat, but there was so much stress underlying your tone when bandwidth was dragging, everyone needed help, and things kept glitching.   You became a teacher to instruct tiny humans in math or reading. The cries for help and ideas, looking everywhere for a release valve in the wake of bottomless expectations and no good options.   I’ve...

When the Waters are Raging

When the Waters are Raging

Last night we walked down to the river after supper. We don’t live near just any river.  A quick 10 minute drive, and we are looking at class IV rapids that draw kayakers and adventure athletes from around the world to play and compete. In fact, one of our people holds the Title 2019 ICF Canoe Freestyle Junior Men World Champion, largely because of the time he spends training in our river.   I tell you this to set the stage for today’s pondering.  Last night, the Chattahoochee was just raging. While the kids love to climb the rocks at...
